if there's one thing about video games, it's that i've found the music one of the most accessible aspects.
the compositions and songs, composed by the likes of Toru Minegishi and Shiho Fuji, found in Splatoon are one such example. in august of 2015, i was swept into a brand new series via the magic of the Chorus of Calamari County, better known as Calamari Inkantation, or even シオカラ節. Splatoon utilizes video game music in a unique fashion. A majority of the series' music is diagetic, in which it exists in it's own canon. whether the player is facing against enemy forces, or the opposing Turf War team, the sprightly tunes are always there to freshen up anything.
In June of 2019, I decided to make a Google Slides presentation (ala tumblr memes), which currently stands unfinished. in an outdated manner, it listed Splatoon's in-universe bands/musical acts, the members, and some fun facts about each one. this shrine is its' spiritual successor.
The Squid Sisters
The iconic duo, The Squid Sisters, are one of the best-known aspects of the original Splatoon. Cousins Callie and Marie are anchors for Inkopolis, one of the series' main locations. Meanwhile, the two are secretly part of the Squidbeak Splatoon, their grandfather's operation in retrieving the Great Zapfish, a precious resource that powers Inkopolis. One of the best-known aspects of the Splatoon series are Splatfests, regional/worldwide events where players pick sides on a specific topic (i.e. money vs love, lemon tea vs milk tea, and even crossover splatfests such as pokémon red vs pokémon blue.) The final splatfest of Splatoon 1, Callie vs Marie, was held in July 2016, and was held over three days around the world.

Splatoon
During the month or so following Splatoon 2's release of July 21st, the Squid Sisters Stories were released on Nintendo's website. these chronicled the events leading up to Splatoon 2's Hero Mode, the two years between Callie vs Marie and Callie's sudden disappearance.
